My 14-year-old has a severe nut allergy and we happened to be on vacation when she had an allergic reaction with a milkshake. Skylar happened to be walking through the triage area in the ER when she heard me telling the triage nurse, "I know your busy, but I am a nurse and my daughter is having an allergic reaction and I just gave her epi 10 minutes ago." Skylar immediately saw my concern, grabbed the patient labels, and took us to the back. She immediately put my daughter at ease with her caring and proficient manner.
I immediately was put at ease with the way she took control of the situation all while explaining to a 14-year-old directly (in terms she understands) what she was doing every step of the way and what every medicine was that was being given to her. Amazing work! I've been a nurse manager for over 15 years and was extremely impressed with the care she received by Skylar.
Skylar rounded on her often and spoke to my daughter directly. I know ER nurses rarely get recognition for the hard work they do every day, but Skylar went above and beyond in taking care of my daughter and I felt she should be recognized for the positive experience we had. She truly put us both at ease with her caring nature especially in a foreign city where this nurse mom had no time to look up hospitals or reviews prior to showing up.
