Sloane's calming demeanor, compassion, and reassuring words made all the difference in the world. As the patient told her, "You being my nurse was the only thing that got me through that week."
I have had the pleasure of working with Slone for 3.5 years and in that time she has excelled at 5 different facilities in multiple states, and has been repeatedly begged to extend by her leaders on those units.  She began her travel journey during the peak of COVID, jumping feet first into a busy trauma center and never looked back. We have received glowing reviews from everywhere she's been. One supervisor stated, "She's fantastic with her patients, always going the extra mile." Another chimed in, "Sloane always strives to go above and beyond in everything she does," or as one ED manager said, she can "run a code better than anyone."  I can also personally attest to her flexibility and willingness to help as she's completed assignments on nights, days, mids, rotating, varied, and even 3p-3a and 3a-3p shifts (YIKES).  No ask is too much for Sloane, she is constantly willing to do what's needed for her facility and the patients in the communities she's traveling to.  Even in times of high stress, she has always approached every situation with a calm, level head, positive attitude and great sense of humor.

I could go on and on professing my adoration for Sloane as a colleague and I'm truly thankful she found Stability all those years ago.  But this nomination is about more than her being wonderful to work with.  It's about the impact she has had on her patients.  She was tracked down on Facebook by a patient who messaged multiple nursing groups and hospital posts, trying to find her and thank her for her amazing care.  This individual was recently postpartum and struggling not only mentally with depression, but also some postnatal complications as well.  Sloane's calming demeanor, compassion, and reassuring words made all the difference in the world. As the patient told her, "You being my nurse was the only thing that got me through that week."

Nurses in the ED are on the front lines.  They are often the face of the hospital for most patients and yet so little recognized for the vast impact they make on our lives.  Why? Is it simply because the visit may not have been as long as someone who's been admitted? But this woman's need to spend hours tracking down Sloane just to say thank you and how important she was in her moment of need speaks to the tremendous impact she made.  Sloane is everything you look for in a nurse... Kind, flexible, knowledgeable, and approachable.  She is an inspiration to me, and clearly, her leaders and patients feel the same.  I can't think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Award.
