Their care made me feel supported, valued, and truly seen during an overwhelming chapter of my life.
My nurses provided exceptional care during one of the most difficult moments of my life. I was admitted to the hospital with a new metastatic cancer diagnosis, significant pain, and extreme emotional distress. From the start, my nurses offered compassionate, reassuring support that felt like a warm embrace. Although I don’t remember everything from those first days, I clearly recall their gentle presence, calming voice, and unwavering kindness.

My nurses consistently managed my pain, supported me emotionally, and ensured that my care was delivered with dignity and comfort. They organized tasks to allow uninterrupted rest, checked on me regularly, and always asked about my needs. Their attention to detail—from warm packs for IV infiltrations to bringing fresh fruit when I had no appetite—made a profound difference in my recovery. Their guidance, education, and empathy were invaluable.

When I needed yet another IV after multiple infiltrations, a nurse came into the room. I had severe anxiety around IV sticks, but she placed the line quickly, skillfully, and with remarkable gentleness. Later, when she became my assigned nurse, she went above and beyond. After I mentioned struggling with my eyebrows due to my illness, this nurse returned after her shift to teach me how to use an eyebrow pencil—and even purchased the same pencil for me to use the next day. Her compassion extended far beyond clinical duties.

My nurses' kindness continued in many small but meaningful ways. Knowing I loved fresh fruit, several nurses purchased a fruit tray after work and brought some to my room so I could have it throughout the night. On another occasion, a nurse brought homemade vegetable beef soup after learning I was struggling to regain my appetite. These acts of generosity provided both nourishment and emotional comfort during a very difficult time.

The charge nurses also demonstrated exceptional leadership and compassion. They visited my room multiple times each shift, assured I was well cared for, and willingly assisted with anything I needed—from fresh ice water to warm packs for my bruised arms. Their concern was sincere, and their presence was reassuring.

The CNAs consistently provided outstanding support as well. One night-shift CNA was always cheerful, attentive, and proactive in ensuring my comfort. Another CNA consistently explained each task, offered encouragement, and helped create a positive healing environment. A day-shift CNA was a constant source of warmth and encouragement, always willing to help and brighten my day.

Every member of the Tower 3 team showed exceptional compassion, professionalism, and humanity. Their care made me feel supported, valued, and truly seen during an overwhelming chapter of my life. I am deeply grateful for each of them.

Congratulations, Tower 3 Team, the recipients of SMC’s 2026 DAISY Team Award!
