My 47-year-old husband had a laminectomy that included removing a very large benign tumor from his cervical spine. He spent one night in the neuro ICU and was transferred to the step-down unit the following day. We spent five days inpatient, and So Ra was our nurse on day 4. I honestly wish she cared for us the whole time. Su Ra took the time to listen, educate, and prepare us for the discharge that would take place the next day. My husband developed a new oxygen requirement that no one had addressed. We discussed the situation with her and together came up with a plan to determine what may be causing the issue. So Ra took the initiative to ensure my husband was having an accurate assessment by walking him around the unit while being connected to pulse oximetry. This simple "test" proved he was safe and thus eliminated the need for oxygen at home. So Ra listened attentively and was empathetic to our needs. She is a true example of a nurse and an asset to HUP.
