Sommer truly advocated for our safety and the safety of the infant.
We had a disruptive and threatening patient in the birth center. I was so appreciative of all the people who came together and helped make a tough situation easier. The doctor, security, and clinical coordinators on both shifts, as well as the nurses working on both shifts did an awesome job of coordinating care and safety measures. We were also supported by DHS and the Baker City PD, and I know the ER staff was also involved before she came to our department.
I wanted to make sure to tell you that our manager, Sommer Sargent, really went above and beyond. She was in close contact with staff in helping answer questions throughout the course of the patient stay, but when things started to get really crazy, she dropped everything and came in without being asked. She was dealing with this difficult patient at the height of her acting out and truly advocated for our safety and the safety of the infant. She was also running around behind the scenes getting rooms stocked and setting up a delivery cart while we had another active labor and delivery, dealing with DHS, creating a safety plan with security and house supervisors, even after things started to calm down a bit she had a hard time leaving because there was a potential for other problems and still work to be done.
Sommer is tireless in her efforts to support us and do whatever she can to help, and I know she often doesn’t get the appreciation she deserves. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that throughout the process I felt grateful for everyone on this team.
Note: This is Sommer's 2nd DAISY Award!
