There are times when you need another nurse for help or to assist you with a patient. There are times when you need a "nurse friend" to assist, listen, encourage, and just roll your eyes with, as if to say, "We'll get through this one." Surgery can be a beast of its own. When things go right as scheduled, it's great, but things can turn on a dime in a matter of seconds. Sondra has the ability to stand strong, hold it together and head a team in the surgical unit exceptionally well. Monday night was one of those nights when dealing with a very difficult surgical situation and Sondra stayed with me until well after her shift to lend her support and expertise. I couldn't have done it without her, and the patient was better with her there as well. She is always ready to assist, teach, correct, care, crack a joke to ease tension, and step into any emergency situation to back you up.
