An early morning code prompted Sonia to voluntarily attend to the patient's need and helped the nurses at the 9 ACU during the crisis situation. Upon entering the room myself, I saw Sonia immediately went beside the patient's bed, who is now awake, but continuously vomiting, and asking for help. Sonia compassionately stayed at patient's bedside, held the patient's hand, giving assurance that she would not leave his side.
Patient was eventually transferred to ICU. During my follow-up visit to the patient and his wife, the patient said that Sonia's presence, the way she communicated and held his hand, gave him the courage to hold on, thought that everything will be alright, and he will continue to receive the best care from everyone.
The patient said that the comfort and compassionate care that he received from Sonia was beyond everything that he had experienced before.
