She went out of her way to get something as simple as his morning coffee, which he is very much used to and that he didn’t get during his stay.
My Father was in the ICU with a ventilator, then moved to 2D once it was removed, and he was stable. While there, he barely ate because he was put on pureed food. I must also add that my father has aphasia from a past stroke and is bi-lingual. Sonia paid attention to everything I said when we spoke. I know this because she applied what she learned from our talks. She really listened. She cared enough to make my father comfortable. She got my dad to eat when no one else could.

Sonia was compassionate, and it wasn’t just her job she was doing. I saw it, I felt it; she truly cared. She cared enough to get to know my dad, considering he could not speak. They understood each other and all in a short time span. That’s not easy with him. She went out of her way to get something as simple as his morning coffee, which he is very much used to and that he didn’t get during his stay. The difference it made in him when I walked into his room and saw this simple act of kindness, amongst other things, touched me. It may not seem like much, but she got through to my dad enough to understand him. Above and beyond her job. We felt genuinely cared for. I am forever thankful, you have no idea!
