It is with great enthusiasm that I nominate Sonya Briggs, Director of Education, for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Having observed Sonya’s remarkable leadership skills during her tenure as ACNO, I was thrilled when she transitioned into the role of Director of Education.
Sonya is a hands-on and highly visible leader who takes the time to understand each team member's role within the department. She ensures that she can step in when needed, showcasing her commitment to supporting the team in every possible way. Sonya holds us to a higher standard, encouraging creative approaches to deliver impactful education to our team members.
During her leadership in the Education Department, Sonya has launched successful initiatives such as the Nurse Tech Program and the New Grad Connect Program. Her tireless work ethic and unwavering dedication are evident, as she goes above and beyond without ever expressing complaints about the numerous hours she invests.
Even in the midst of her busy schedule, Sonya is always available to support her team when needed. Her inspiring leadership style motivates us to elevate ourselves and meet her high expectations. She is the type of leader who fosters growth, commitment, and passion among her team.

I am honored to nominate Sonya for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. She exemplifies being a leader on a daily basis. Instead of mistakes being punitive and discouraging, she is very understanding and takes the time to make it a teachable moment. It encourages me to do better, and I don't feel like I cannot share with her when I have a work "hiccup". She meets with me regularly to discuss the projects I am working on and helps me frame out my timeline for those projects. I have never had a manager who collaborates like this, and it makes me feel part of a team and family, not just an employee doing a job. There have been situations where immediate action and decision-making were needed, and she has always responded with professionalism and patience. She is really good about listening to the full details of the situation before making a quick decision, and her answers always help to steer me on the right path. Her actions as a leader make me want to be a better employee and make coming to work every day a fulfilling experience.
