Sonya cared for my mom in the last days of her life. When I arrived from Virginia, she was one of the first nurses I met. She welcomed me in and immediately gave me an update. From the moment I got there, she showed such compassion and empathy for me, but more importantly, for my mom. In a time when empathy is seen as a weakness, I could not be more thankful for nurses like Sonya.

She talked with my mom and had wonderful stories to tell me about her time with my mom. She was going off shift when my mom passed, and I heard her say I will stay to help. I am sure she had things to do after her 12-hour shift. She could have reported off, but she stayed. She hugged me after listening to my mom’s heartbeat, and she made a difference in one of the most difficult things I have ever experienced. I know God places people in your life for a reason, and I believe Sonya was there to help me that day. Sonya is doing exactly what she was meant to do.
