A chaplain was visiting a patient and spoke with a nurse who was hoping to find a playpen for the patient's infant son, so that when he was here he could be by his mom and be able to play. The nine month old son was kept in the stroller and it limited the time he could visit his mom. This nurse mentioned it to Sonya who, as luck would have it, had one that they no longer needed at home. Sonya had her husband bring it up to the hospital, and gave it to the patient to have as her own so that her son could visit for longer periods of time. This was a huge gift to mom (the patient) as her son could not be with her on the bed, and the time she could spend with him was limited. After this donation, when the grandma brought the baby in for visits, he was able to stay longer and help his mom feel better. This is a wonderful thing Sonya did for this patient, as she understood what it is like to be away from children, and how having them nearby can bring comfort and joy.
Sonya did thisout of compassion and care for her patients. Sonya went above and beyond and truly touched the heart of one of our patients.
