Sophia G Freeman

Sophia is one of the most compassionate students I have ever had in clinical. She truly exemplifies what it is to be a Saint Anselm nurse. Oftentimes, when we were leaving for the day, I would end up asking, “Where is Sophia?” and finally find her right where she is meant to be - at the bedside, giving her full, undivided attention to her patient, providing them with comfort, and connecting with them as a human being. She is the kind of nurse who will make the extra time for the patients labeled as “needy” or “difficult.” I will never forget the time that she continuously advocated for adequate pain control for a patient with opioid use disorder, even when met with resistance from staff who wrote the patient off as drug-seeking. In the absence of pharmacological therapy, Sophia offered herself and provided a soothing, caring, nonjudgemental presence for a patient who was truly suffering. I am so proud of her, and I know she will be the kind of nurse who changes the lives of everyone she touches.
