Knowing that she was there to make sure I knew every detail of what was happening and why, and that if there was any change in baby’s status, or if we needed to change our delivery plans, that she would be there to make sure nothing was just thrown at me made me feel so much better.
Sophia was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond during my delivery of my first baby. I TRULY believe I would not have had the positive experience I did if I hadn't had Sophia that day. If we hadn't already picked out a name, we would have strongly considered naming our daughter Sophia after all she had done for us. Here are a few examples. 1. Sophia spent over 2 hours trying to change the position before I started pushing, so the baby would be delivered face-side up. She did a 4-step process, which involved her literally breaking a sweat for 30+ min trying to get our baby to turn. And guess what, she did! 2. Sophia handled emergency situations with calmness, and my husband and I really didn't understand the severity of some of the situations until we were in the clear. There was a time when the emergency team was called in because our baby's heartbeat was too low. Sophia gracefully had the staff in the room in seconds and led the charge to get our baby's heartbeat back up. After the baby was stable, Sophia calmly explained what happened and what to expect if it happens again. 3. As a first-time mom, I expected to be in active labor for 24 hours. Well, guess what. Sophia's attentiveness to my medication, positions, and pushing made our baby come in just 10 hours. Not to mention, I only pushed for 30 minutes due to her amazing push instructions. 4. Sophia's shift ended 1 hour before our baby was born. However, she wanted to stay the extra time so she could be with me and the baby for the delivery to see her hard work through. She volunteered to be our photographer and took photos of her birth that we wouldn't have had otherwise. I can't say enough kind, appreciative, grateful things about Sophia. She is an absolute ROCKSTAR. She deserves this award so much.

I went in for a scheduled induction of labor, and my anxiety was at an all-time high. I explained to Sophia that years prior, I had been in labor with my first baby, who was born extremely prematurely, and the baby passed away.  My brain kept spiraling and thinking about all of the things that could go wrong this time, and the fear that my baby wouldn’t make it. Sophia made sure to give me every detail about what was happening and how my baby was doing on the monitors. She reassured me that the baby’s tracing was perfect every time she came into my room. I also explained I had previously had two very long labors and was afraid my OB would miss delivery if I labored for days again, and she was determined that would not happen.  She came in frequently and checked on me.  Once our baby was out, she took pictures of my husband cutting the cord as that was something he couldn’t do with our previous births. Knowing that she was there to make sure I knew every detail of what was happening and why, and that if there was any change in baby’s status, or if we needed to change our delivery plans, that she would be there to make sure nothing was just thrown at me made me feel so much better. I felt safe with her, and we ended up with an amazing labor and birth experience because of her support.
