I can’t describe how grateful I was to have her there; I really appreciated her expertise and kindness. Such a caring person.
Sophie was absolutely amazing during our stay at UHCW; she was with us from when our baby girl came into the world stillborn, alongside the other midwives, and still checked in on us nearly a week later when I was being treated for sepsis. She looked after me when I was poorly from all the drugs(!) post-delivery and repeatedly checked in on us after she’d finished her shifts bless her.
Sophie always communicated clearly to us and used simple language in such a compassionate way, she explained things so well, it was such a distressing and upsetting time for us. After the birth, Sophie dressed our baby girl in the prettiest white dress with a blanket and hat and brought her to us. She treated her and us with so much respect. She did our prints for our memory box, took beautiful photos of her and of her with us, and sat and cried with us when she went through the box and showed us her prints. Truly compassionate and respectful care. It was such an emotional and upsetting time for us. I can’t describe how grateful I was to have her there; I really appreciated her expertise and kindness. Such a caring person.
Later on during my stay when I was on lots of IV drips, Sophie could see how much I was struggling mentally and emotionally on the ward so she even phoned the microbiologist to try and get more information for us and also to try and get my discharge sorted quicker as she knew how much I wanted to get home and away from the postnatal ward. I can’t believe she came to see us after her shifts had finished too, to make sure we were ok. 13 hours of work, and she still came back! She had multiple roles too on the wards including clinical and teaching all the new midwives, but she always found time to see us. Even getting us food at times.
The whole team of midwives and HCAs that looked after me were amazing, and an absolute credit to the trust. It’s hard to not name them all! But Sophie's compassionate and respectful care really stood out for my partner and me and I am so so grateful she was there, looking after us the way she did. Truly amazing
