Sophie emulates all that a great nurse is.
My grandmother was admitted to the hospital, and Sophie was her nurse on Christmas Eve. When I came in to visit, Sophie was very patient and so kind. She took the time to speak with her and answer questions to reassure her. She kneeled down to get on her level, and it really helped my grandmother feel that she was heard.
My grandmother ended up declining very quickly and needed to be transferred to the ICU. In the chaos of it all, Sophie called me and went through every moment and what they were doing to address the problems that came up. She made sure that my grandma wasn't alone even for a second in what may very well have been the scariest moments of her life. Sophie held her hand the whole way, and that has brought me so much peace.
Being a caregiver myself and having worked with Sophie on a few occasions, this didn't change how she treated me during this scary time. She gave me the time to be a concerned family member rather than just another nurse. My grandmother left this life shortly after, despite the quick and incredible care she received.
When I came by the room to take her belongings afterwards, Sophie came immediately and comforted me as I cried. She was so incredibly kind and empathetic. I can never thank her enough for her compassion at such a devastating time for me and my family. Sophie emulates all that a great nurse is.
Kindness, empathy, patience, determination, prioritization, responsibility, and accountability, she has all of these qualities and so much more. I know there is so much that comes with being a nurse, and it can be overwhelming at times and stressful. She never lost her cool and was so calm and present, even with her responsibilities for other patients as well. The impact it left on me has made such a huge difference not only for my personal life but in my role as a nurse as well. I want to be a nurse just like Sophie. Thank you so much from my whole heart for your example and kindness.
