Stacey Bednar is an extraordinary nurse who continually exemplifies the values of UPMC. She serves as a role model to staff as a preceptor, charge nurse and leader in the PACU. Stacey is driven to provide excellent care always giving attention to even the minutest details. Stacey in her unique way is always looking for ways to improve the patient experience, with compassion and caring.
Most recently after working a night shift, Stacey again put her personal needs aside and focused solely on the needs of a patient. As Stacey was leaving Presby, she encountered a gentleman looking confused, frustrated and unsure as to what to do next. Stacey approached the gentleman and found that he was trying to find the location for an appointment that he thought was at Presby. Instead, his appointment was at Mercy Hospital. Stacey called the department at Mercy on the patient's behalf and realized that was correct. His appointment was there, and it was still possible for the patient to make it there. She escorted the gentleman to ED security and asked if they could assist with getting him to Mercy. After being told "no" they could not help, Stacey took it upon herself to drive the patient from Presby to Mercy Hospital and escort him directly to his appointment location.
This is a special example of the ways in which Stacey Bednar goes above and beyond for all those she encounters, regardless of the time of day or situation.
