My son has been an oncology patient here for over 2 years. As an Onco patient, there are times he is not able to leave his floor. This admission was for a lung biopsy. Our nurse, most of the time, was Stacey. On our second night they were having a Winterfest in the cafeteria. Because our son had a chest tube in, he was unable to leave his room without a nurse. He was so excited about the Winterfest. He was very upset when we told him he couldn't go because there wasn't anyone to take him. Stacey got done what she needed to do with her other patients and asked another nurse to look out for them so she could take him down to the Winterfest for a while.
It may seem like a small act of kindness to some, but to us it meant a lot. Stacey has been like family to us while we were here. She shows compassion and is a true patient advocate. I think that CHOP and the children she cares for are lucky to have her.
