My father suffered a CVA. When we noticed his left side deficits, it was immediately clear that he would need rehabilitation. As an RN in rehab since 1993, I've seen many incredible recoveries, but I also know the harsh reality! His insurance would likely deny coverage for an IRU. When my father was ready for rehab, Stacey stepped in and fiercely advocated on his behalf, even as the insurance company initially denied his admission. During that difficult time, my father suffered two additional TIA's. Stacey didn't give up –she went to bat for him again, and thanks to her persistence, his rehab stay was finally approved. After several weeks of therapy, my father was able to return home to his family, requiring only minimal assistance. Without Stacey’s advocacy, he might have ended up in a nursing home. Every day I see Stacey working behind the scenes, fighting for patients like my dad. Her role may often go unnoticed, but the impact of her work is undeniable.
