It took Staci approximately 3 hours to get the patient’s hair untangled, to which the patient was grateful since she no longer had to cut all her hair off because of its condition.
While discussing the plan of care with a patient, Staci McKinney, LPN, noted that the patient's hair was extremely matted and offered to help her with detangling it.

The patient responded that she had already tried to comb her hair, but the comb became caught in the knots due to the matting. The patient stated to Staci that she was concerned that she would need to shave her hair off due to the massive amounts of matting. Staci tried to help her detangle her hair but could not; the comb would continuously get caught in the patient’s hair. Staci advised her that she was scheduled to work the following day and would bring the correct tools to assist her so she could save her hair.

She asked her if she had sensitive skin because she wanted to get the patient detangling spray for her hair. The patient replied that she had never had prior skin issues and would greatly appreciate Staci’s help.

Staci returned to work with the brush, detangling spray, and hair bows she purchased to help detangle her hair. Staci started the massive undertaking after she had finished her morning medication pass. It took her approximately 3 hours to get the patient’s hair untangled, to which the patient was grateful since she no longer had to cut all her hair off because of its condition.

Another example of Staci going above and beyond came during the care of a patient who had been hospitalized for multiple weeks. When the patient informed Staci that he missed seeing the puppies that he owned, Staci arranged with the patient's wife to surprise the patient with a visit from his puppies.

Staci wheeled the patient outside, where his wife was waiting with the puppies. This may seem like something small to some, but for this patient, I’m sure it did more than brighten his day.

Staci strives every day to make a difference in her patients' lives. During leadership rounds, I am often informed by her patients how caring she is and how well she treats them. She also is always willing to help her coworkers as well. She has a positive attitude and is a joy to work with. I feel she truly deserves the DAISY Award
