It was around 9 pm when my husband and I checked in on the third floor and were greeted by Stacy at the reception desk. Although this was the birth of our second child, we were nervous and anxious as if this was our first as this time around was not planned, as I was induced with our first child. From that very first moment on, I knew we were in great hands with kind and calming Stacy.
We had a long and slow labor process so when I decided I wanted to have an epidural, my husband had to leave the room. I was very nervous as during my previous birth I had to have two epidurals because they missed one side. I told Stacy this and without hesitation, she offered to hold my hand and helped me breathe through my frightened tears.
Throughout the night, she helped with every buzzer press and every question we had. When we were getting close to 7 am (the end of her shift), she told me we had to get the baby out before she left as this was "her baby". I was so appreciative she cared and took ownership of us, I was determined to give birth before 7 am as I wanted and needed Stacy there. The clock struck 7 am and I was introduced to my new nurse (who was delightful), but I was so sad to say good-bye to Stacy. Then 10 minutes later, Stacy came back into the room and stayed with us until my daughter was born at 8:07 am! I can't describe the joy, relief, and gratefulness I felt that she stayed and worked a 13 hour day for me and my daughter.
