Stacy is a caring and compassionate nurse every day. But, recently I was able to be witness to an event that brought this into perspective for me. There was an emergency called to the men's bathroom in the waiting area at North Arlington. When I arrived I found Stacy on the floor kneeled next to a patient caringly holding him as he was having a seizure. The patient was not conscious, but Stacy continued to softly reassure him that he was ok. She held him through the seizure and protected him from injury in such a caring matter. She then realized that the patient's head was not on the floor, she proceeded to take off her sweater and place it under his head to keep him comfortable and safe. When he stopped seizing she continued to speak to him in such a respectful and caring way while she checked his vitals, and assessed him. She held his hand while I checked his blood sugar. Stacy took complete charge of the situation. The patient continued to have seizures while we waited for EMS. Stacy continued to hold him, protect him, and care for him. The parents were nearby, and even though they were scared, it was Stacy's caring manner that kept them calmed and collected. The family knew that their son was in great caring hands. Watching Stacy care for this patient, inspired me. She was humble, professional, caring, and loving. She took charge of the situation. She maintained the patient's safety, privacy, and dignity while keeping him as stable as possible while EMS arrived. Her compassion was evident in every action she took. This is just one example of the work that she does day in and day out to care for her patients.
