My sister-in-law was flown to Mercy and became a patient on the Trauma Burn Unit following a horrific accident in Breezewood that claimed the life of her husband. While her care throughout her whole hospital stay was exceptional, there is one nurse who went beyond her nursing duties and provided so much comfort that I can’t even describe it in words to you. Her name is Stefanie, and she is an RN. My sister-in-law was your patient, and her husband was a patient at UPMC Altoona. The communication about her husband’s health was done by phone with my husband and my sister-in-law. His condition following the accident was critical but stable until the early morning hours, when his health started to decline rapidly. Stephanie was extremely professional but also showed her very human side, cried with us, and gave my sister-in-law the support she needed while on the TBU.
