Ms. Stefanie Wager is a committed and exceptional Registered Nurse who always keeps the veteran at the forefront of providing outstanding care. She was hand-selected to become the charge nurse, based on information from her peers. She knows when and what should be delegated and monitored. She keeps track of the surgical room in and out time, which is collected for the National Office. She helps ensure all equipment, supplies, and instruments are available for every case. Ms. Wagner is a solid achiever and innovator, as she noticed there was a lot of wasted products with our current surgical packs from the Cardinal Supply company. She recently worked with Logistics on a cost analysis from three companies to provide the best cost savings for the Lebanon VA. This resulted in the replacement of our surgical packs from Cardinal to Medline with an estimated savings of 84,500/ year. This has drastically reduced the waste of products. Ms. Wagner was summoned into one of the Operating Rooms by a surgeon because the Veteran had received several skin nicks on his surgical site, which resulted from the shave prep done in the pre-operative area. If skin nicks are present prior to surgery, the site will have an increased chance of becoming infected due to the presence of microorganisms in the skin nicks. Ms. Wagner listened to the surgeon and immediately took action to improve this situation. A very driven individual, she realized that there had already been an educational hands-on activity for the ASU pre-op nurses; therefore, she worked directly with the General surgeons to set up a trial of different clipper blades, including the new Sensiclip blade. Ms. Wager is a top-notch nurse who always goes above and beyond to help solve problems that may affect our veterans. She is very resourceful and makes effective use of shared information that helps our Operating Room run smoothly. Ms. Stefanie Wagner has been a pure delight to work with and is highly respected by her superiors, peers, and subordinates. It is with pleasure that I highly recommend Ms. Wagner, who is very humble, hardworking, and very deserving of this most prestigious award.
