Visiting Disney World was one of this patient's biggest dreams. One of which he had been saving for. He and his family made the trip to Orlando and the patient was admitted to the hospital shortly after his arrival, hence deferring his dream.
From the beginning, Stefannia formed a unique rapport with her patient and his family. They bonded over their shared culture and love for Mickey Mouse. Knowing how hard he worked just to get to Disney World, Stefannia took it upon herself to visit the park in her time off and bring him a special memento to brighten his drab room: balloons! The festive cheer was noticeable to all passersby.
Stefannia was celebrating her own birthday at Disney when she called to check on the patient. She learned that care would be withdrawn and his grief-stricken family was unable to stay with the patient during and after withdrawal. Stefannia cut her park visit short, rushing over to DPH, where she remained at the patient's bedside for hours so that he would not have to transition alone.
Stefannia's actions went above and beyond. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
