Steph is a wonderful example of the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin values: Purpose, Collaboration, Integrity, Health and Innovation. Steph is a highly valued team member who takes care of patients on every inpatient unit of the hospital, in addition to the emergency department trauma center.
Steph has been a preceptor for new nurses for five years. She is known to be a strong leader who encourages critical thinking and patient advocacy. One of her nominations reads, "Steph sets the bar high and challenges her orientees to be committed to excellence. She encourages them to think outside of the box and prepare families for the course of their stay. Her dedication to developing a strong team is evident every day."
Steph is a fierce patient advocate and is meticulous yet compassionate in her care of children. Along with nominations from her leadership team and peers, Steph was also nominated by several families. The mother of a child in Steph's care wrote, "She would be silly, asking about his interests. She explained everything as she was doing it. She took her time and got him to trust her. Nothing was a fight and it was so awesome to see a nurse go out of her way to make him feel comforted and not rushed. She checked in with him regularly and seemed to truly love what she did and it showed in everything she did. Thanks so much for the awesome care!"
Steph's commitment to excellence to her CRU team and all of her coworkers on other units makes her a joy to work with. Her dedication to attentive, safe and empathetic care for the children and families that she serves is evident every day. She is an exceptional role model for all nurses here at Children's.
