She soothed me telling me that she would do everything possible on her watch to make sure I was getting the best of care.
In the middle of a life crisis, you want to know that someone or the person assigned to you will do his or her best to do what’s best for you. Recently, I sought medical assistance in the emergency room of Mary Washington Hospital. I couldn’t breathe and I was in a strange place as I recently moved from Maryland. I was afraid because I didn’t know why my body was acting the way it was. My blood pressure and heart rate were all over the place; something that I had never experienced before. Having had active tuberculosis some years ago, losing a lung to scar tissue, years and years of medication and monitoring by the health departments, first in my home state of Virginia and later Maryland, I know how precocious life can be. I struggled to understand what was happening all around me. The answers came in the form of nurse Stephanie Miller. She calmed me, taught me how to read my vitals, and explained the different nuisances associated with my condition. She called the doctors and communicated with them when she felt that I was in trouble. She soothed me telling me that she would do everything possible on her watch to make sure I was getting the best of care. I was admitted to the ICU, but they didn’t have a bed right away. She made sure that I was comfortable before her shift ended and told me what to expect. I was diagnosed with 2 lung clots, associated heart issues (at first it was thought that I had a stroke), and a mass on my right lung. I am still dealing with some life-changing issues, but I am still here, and I thank everyone for their consolidated efforts. The hospital was good to me. The staff was excellent and the care top notch. Stephanie Miller is the greatest and I sincerely appreciate her thoughtfulness, patience, expertise, and concern for my care. Thank you so much.
