Stephanie always demonstrates remarkable professionalism and expertise in her role as a nurse. A distressed Veteran reported to Stephanie's department during an active cardiac emergency, which needed immediate triage and disposition. She took charge of the emergency by instructing supportive staff to activate the emergency response team, obtain an AED, alert the covering provider, contact 911, and obtain an EKG. Once the diagnostic EKG was obtained, it was immediately noted by this RN and the provider that the Veteran was having an active life-threatening emergency, ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI). Stephanie immediately contacted 911 again to ensure that they were aware that the Veteran was actively having a STEMI, Stephanie also communicated to all receiving personnel the veteran's updated status for a smooth transition of care. Due to Stephanie's quick response and recognition of an emergent situation, she was able to coordinate the veteran's care to a definitive higher level of care via EMS within an impressive 18 minutes. She showed an extremely high level of compassion to the Veteran while talking him through a critical cardiac crisis with an exemplary calm demeanor and professionalism. Stephanie continuously stands out as an exceptional RN by demonstrating her dedication, VA pride, and medical professionalism while keeping the highest standards of the VA.
