My husband and I welcomed our brand new baby boy into the world in February 2020. Steph made all the difference in the care and assessment of our baby. The ironic part is that we are eternally thankful to Steph, and we actually never met her! During our second night on the post-partum unit, our baby was taken to the nursery for his routine assessment. The next morning our doctor came in for rounds and told us that the night nurse (Steph) heard a heart murmur. The doctor agreed that it should be further investigated. It was found our baby had a small VSD and PFO which are expected to close on their own with time. Steph was "just doing her job" by completing the routine assessment, but being a nurse myself, I know how hard it can be when you find a "different" assessment to bring forth a concern. Because she advocated and had such incredible assessment skills, our baby got the further treatment he needed. I am so impressed with Steph. She is a DAISY Nurse because of her critical thinking, advocating, and persistence in our baby's care.
