Stephanie's expression of empathy reassures parents that there is someone who genuinely cares about their child's well-being.
I have been volunteering for over 2 years at Nemours Children’s Health, and I’ve witnessed firsthand Stephanie DiDonato’s dedication and compassion when interacting with the patients, families, and other Nemours associates. She communicates effectively and warmly, ensuring that families are kept informed about the surgery's progress and post-surgery updates, thereby alleviating their stress. Stephanie is regarded as a leader and a model of excellence by her peers. She also collaborates across departments to coordinate support for families such as arranging for lunches for families from the Resource Center and Ronald McDonald House. Her positive attitude and commitment to making a difference are evident in her actions. One example is a cardiac patient and family Stephanie would see walk past the surgery waiting area, on one occasion Stephanie introduced herself to the family and provided slushies to the entire family, creating a memorable experience for them. The patient's mother reports her son loves visiting nurse Stephanie!

Integrity is defined as a person's commitment to honesty and their willingness to do what is right. Stephanie exemplifies a high level of integrity in her nursing practice and in her life overall. She consistently refrains from taking advantage of others. On one occasion, a parent was extremely distressed about how she would get her child home after surgery. The mother was in tears and did not have a car. Stephanie sat with the mother, calming her down, and then found a neighbor who willingly agreed to pick up the mother and her daughter and take them home.
Stephanie consistently seeks ways to assist others. Parents are often anxious or fearful, frequently due to the unknown. Stephanie has a unique ability to treat parents who are upset or afraid with respect and kindness, regardless of their circumstances or physical abilities. She empathizes with their emotions and sees things from their perspective. Stephanie's expression of empathy reassures parents that there is someone who genuinely cares about their child's well-being. Her exceptional abilities help to calm parents and family members. Stephanie goes above and beyond her regular duties, and we are truly fortunate to have her at Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware.
