She was not only an incredible nurse to my son, but also a maternal figure to me when I needed it most.
Three years ago, I welcomed my baby boy into the world via C-Section. He was diagnosed with L-TGA, and just three days later, after bringing him into this world, I found myself leaving the maternity ward to be with him on 11 West. Recovering from surgery while trying to care as much as I could for my newborn in such a high-stress environment was emotionally overwhelming. One night, while I was cleaning my breast pump parts, exhausted and still in significant pain, I accidentally dropped them all over the floor. That moment broke me. I left scared, helpless, and like I wasn’t doing enough as a first-time mom. That night, Stephanie was our nurse. She came over immediately, helped me gather the pieces, gave me the warmest hug, and offered comforting words that I still carry with me today. She was not only an incredible nurse to my son, but also a maternal figure to me when I needed it most. She even brought me a sandwich and made sure that I was cared for, just as much as my son.

Now, three years later, my son is back at Mott for his final open-heart surgery, the Fontan procedure. In a beautiful full-circle moment, Stephanie was again our night nurse. During a particularly emotional evening, she remained composed, professional, and respectful to everyone involved. She stayed focused on my son, showing the same calm and compassionate care that meant so much to us years ago. Stephanie has consistently gone above and beyond-not only as a nurse, but as a remarkable woman. Her dedication to her patients and their families is deeply impactful. She embodies everything the DASIY Award stands for, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving. Please consider recognizing Stephanie for her exceptional care, compassion, and continued support of our family throughout this journey.
