I feel as though Steph is family. I went into triage after my water broke, knowing that our little girl would be born soon. However, our situation was unique. We were going to have a daughter born with thanatophoric dysplasia and she would not live long after birth. Steph knew this as she walked us to our room. She sat next to me, she held my hand, she cried with me. It was an experience that I had never experienced before. She made me feel safe and secure and loved. She allowed our family and friends to come see us and pray with us. She allowed us to take our time and to prepare our hearts. She took me upstairs to High Risk and that is when I had a placenta abruption. There was blood all over my bed. I started to panic. Steph held my hand, looked me in the eye, said: "It's going to be ok." I knew then that I was in good hands. She stayed calm and collected, but still worked quickly and made sure I was in an OR room asap. The entire team was really great. Dr. F. and the whole crew were amazing and made me feel safe and taken care of. Steph kept coming over to me during the C-section and holding my hand and she kept telling me everything was ok. She just kept reassuring me. I wanted to make sure I could spend time with my daughter, so knowing that I didn't have to worry about my body, helped me to spend time with her. Steph stayed way past her shift to make sure I made it out okay and stayed with me to make sure I remained stable. I am so thankful for that!
Steph had a shift the next day and she made sure to come in and check on me. She not only did her job amazingly but she sat on my bed while my husband showered, and just talked to me about healing my heart and not just healing my body. She made sure I took care of myself and that my husband and I know we have people to turn to and there are resources. She gave me hugs and she helped clean up our room. She was truly an angel during the time we had to spend at Christiana. She will forever be in our memories when it comes to our sweet baby girl. She helped us more than she will ever know. We can't thank her enough. She deserves this award and so much more! Thank you for having an amazing staff, especially when it comes to unique situations like ours. We felt very loved.
