Stephanie recently started her nursing journey as a new grad on our floor and has flourished tremendously. She came to Scripps after having spent time working at Father Joe's Villages. At Father Joe's Stephanie volunteered as a nurse tending to the underserved in the San Diego community. She worked in their clinic providing compassionate care to everyone she encountered. While working at Father Joe's it is noted that she went out of her way on several occasions to help out people in need. She was found opening the clinic on closed hours to help bring in someone who had been sitting on the street and helped tend to their medical. She frequently recognizes patients at Scripps Mercy who had been at Father Joe's and with a bright smile sparks conversation with them to inquire about how they are doing.
Her energetic personality has been an exceptional bonus to our floor. When Stephanie works, she comes prepared to learn. She is constantly willing to try new things and accepts new challenges every day. She is extremely helpful to her fellow staff and constantly looks for ways to help others when she can. She builds amazing rapport with all her patients and proves that she is meant to be a nurse.
Recently, she cared for a patient on our floor who has been here for over 100 days. During the patient's stay, Stephanie has time and time again stepped up and contributed tremendously to her care. She has spent hours building a relationship with this patient, closely staying involved in the patient's intricate wound healing and has set goals for the patient to achieve. At the beginning of the New Year, Stephanie took time to suggest and help this patient create a vision board from magazine cutouts for her goals for 2019. She helped the patient feel hopeful about her treatment plan and encouraged her to stay focused on getting better. She has even been a huge contributor in having the patient get up and walk more than she ever has in the past 100 days!
Stephanie is never afraid of a challenge and is always willing to step up to the plate. One charge nurse states, "Stephanie is always willing to take multiple admissions, she will come to me willing to accept any challenge and consistently has a positive attitude. She is reliable and an amazing asset to our team. I feel lucky to work with her. Her personality is vibrant and her smile is infectious". Another charge nurse reflected on a day when Stephanie had a critically ill patient. The patient was declining and Stephanie stepped in, called a rapid response, and swiftly administered appropriate care. Not only did Stephanie contribute to saving this patient's life, but she was astute to all the little signs that had been presented to her. "Stephanie had a really challenging assignment that day. I was surprised that even on the following day she came back wanting the same assignment. She was determined to keep the continuity of care and help her patients by building rapport. She was ready to learn from what had occurred the previous day and continue to stay vigilant to promote wellness in this patient".
Stephanie works extremely hard and is so passionate about helping others. Her spirit and personality exude with compassion. She is undoubtedly an empathetic and intelligent nurse who reflects exactly what the Mercy way stands for. We are undeniably luckly to have her on our team!
