Stephanie was our admitting RN. Dad was tired, stressed, and difficult. (We would later discover that he had pneumonia and bilateral PEs, which helped explain some of his panic). In addition to panic, Dad has dementia. Sometimes it is impossible to reason with him. But Stephanie is compassionate and recognized that he wasn't just being obstinate but was scared and confused. She was terrific at getting him to do what was needed. The overall admission took hours, yet she was patient and understanding. She had a calming effect. She seemed to know how to get a little compliance from him and then go and see another patient, and then she would return and get him a little further. She made me feel like she cared about Dad and how well he was doing and not just getting her admission and paperwork done.
She has an easy-going demeanor and a sense of humor. She is great at building an "us" mentality with the patient, accomplishing one task together and knows how to refocus my dad. She genuinely seems to love her job and cares about her patients. To me, she is a true DAISY Nurse.
