Stephanie Guay, nurse with Susquehanna Health's Joint Center, was selected after being nominated by a patient. "I was a patient in Stephanie's care recovering from a total knee replacement surgery. Shortly after surgery I began to experience excruciating pain that could not be relieved despite the efforts of the medical staff. Throughout this ordeal I was inconsolable, demanding and feeling hopeless. I called on Stephanie incessantly and she never kept me waiting. She worked with me and my doctor to try to curb my pain and never minimized my feelings. She treated me with dignity and respect even at times when I was not pleasant to deal with. Her ability to communicate a genuine empathy for my experience, despite my condition, was remarkable, and she is a shining example of what true patient care constitutes."
