June 2024 Honoree
Stephanie Hotz, BSN, RN
I was hospitalized in France for 30 days. This is my third surgery since being back. I got a tracheostomy this time. Stephanie is by far the most caring, compassionate nurse I've had. She came in this morning and apologized for forgetting a recliner for my room. She showered with a wand last night while at home to figure out the best way for me to shower once I got home. I had never experienced a nurse who had gone to those lengths for a patient. It meant the world to my family and myself. Last two stays I rarely saw the night nurse. She consistently checks on me, asks if there is anything I need, and offers to do anything for me. I've never in my life had a nurse so compassionate and kind. You can tell she loves her job and her patients and truly cares about them. My family and I are floored by her dedication and commitment to her patients. I feel sorry for other patients who don't have a 'Stephanie' who takes care of them. She made a frightening experience relatable and put our minds at ease. It's too bad not all nurses take after her. She is exceptional, and UIHC is very lucky to have her.
Thank you, Stephanie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
