Stephanie Leroy is an RN on a busy medical surgical unit at Aurora BayCare Medical center. During one of her shifts she was assigned a young gentleman who was placed on comfort cares. The young man was very upset because he was supposed to marry his fiance and due to his very poor prognosis it did not look like this would be possible as a rushed marriage license would cost over $240 dollars to process same day and he was not able to afford the cost and was expected to die within the next 24 hours.

Stephanie took up donations throughout the hospital from employees who wanted to help and not only raised enough money for the license but also coordinated a small ceremony in the hospital chapel with a wedding cake and flowers. This was all done in the nick of time as the patient passed away shortly after the wedding ceremony.

The family was grateful for the excellent medical care and patient experience and wanted to recognize Stephanie for the excellent care and compassion she provided.
