While caring for a paraplegic inmate, saying Stephanie Segrest went above and beyond would be an understatement. She went out of her way daily to ensure the patient was properly cared for. The patient had a stage 4 pressure injury with a wound vac. Stephanie spoke with providers to ensure the patient had adequate pain management for every dressing change. Wound vacs were checked daily on her rounds, and she would ensure the patients' needs were met, big or small, grabbing fresh water and calling dietary to help meet their individual needs. She had the guards change the patients' shackles from metal to plastic to prevent further skin breakdown. At times, inmates can be judged or viewed differently than other patients. Her willingness to meet this patient's needs speaks volumes to her loving personality and dedication to the nursing practice.
