My husband and I were blessed to have Stephanie as our nurse, welcoming our baby girl earlier this year.
My situation was a bit unique, as I am also a Labor and Delivery nurse at Aurora Sinai. I met Stephanie when I was hired on the unit in 2014. Since I met her, I have grown to know her not only as an outstanding RN but also a dear friend as well.
Being a Labor and Delivery nurse, my nerves were a bit high with knowing everything that would possibly occur during my labor. However, when I walked on the unit around 8:45 am after being home after my water broke for 12 hours, Stephanie greeted me with a big hug and calmed my nerves almost instantly. At this point, I knew that I needed to get an IV and start the augmentation process to kick in more consistent contractions. My goal was to try and have no pain medications during my labor, however, I was more than open to different options if need be. My labor progressed rather quickly. Stephanie provided me with excellent labor support, allowing me to move around while monitoring the baby as well. She constantly was there, rubbing my back and even just reassuring me throughout the labor. Once my contractions were much stronger, Stephanie even helped me in the tub for a short time period. Not much longer (about 20-30 minutes), I was pushing. Although I don't think she even realized, Stephanie's motivational, calming words during what seemed to be the longest time of my life is what helped me gain the courage and strength needed to have our baby girl.
Stephanie Martin is a true DAISY Nurse not only because she made my labor and delivery a great and unforgettable experience, but also because I know that she does this on a daily basis with all of her patients. I never once worried about the care I received and had complete trust in her ability as an RN to take care of my baby and myself.
