The family of Stephanie's patient was undecided about what they wanted to do with their loved one. The patient's family members were very needy and also confusing. They didn't know what they wanted to do with the patient, either put the patient in hospice or just have comfort care at the hospital. This was going for a while, but on Wednesday morning Stephanie was the nurse and she asked the family what was the plan of care for their loved one and the family member explained to her that he was scared because his wife died the same way going to hospice. He also lost two brothers in March of last year and also mother-in-law in May so everything was hard for him. Stephanie sat him down in the family room and had a heart to heart talk with him for about 25 minutes abut hospice care and what is done when you get there. After they spoke, he came with the decision to let his mom go to hospice and felt at ease with the decision after talking with Stephanie. Stephanie made the effort to go above her job and try to figure out why the patient was still there and hadn't gotten discharged yet. She was also happy about doing it. It really made her feel good and I knew it made the family feel better.
