4 East received a patient from ER who is also a patient at the Woodland Cancer Center. She was admitted for complications from metastatic cancer. She had just received information from her doctor that her cancer has spread. The patient was not only in pain but very upset about her news. We were having difficulty accessing her port because it was not in the correct position. The patient stated that the only person who can access her port was someone at the Cancer Center. I called the Cancer Center and after speaking with Stephanie, quickly found out that the other person was off today. Stephanie made a special trip to the hospital to evaluate the patient's port and was able to access it for the patient. Stephanie did not have to come and access the port for us but she truly made a difference for this patient. Now the patient can have her IV fluids, pain medicine and blood draws done from the port without worry. Her peripheral IV was poor and was not going to last long. I really appreciate Stephanie willing to take time out of her day to make a difference for a patient that is going through a lot right now.
