Stephanie’s leadership fosters belonging, respect, and shared purpose. Her ability to motivate and inspire is evident through her work fostering team member recognition and professional pride.
Stephanie’s clinical expertise, visionary leadership, and dedication to children and families during their most vulnerable moments exemplify the highest ideals of nursing leadership. With over 22 years of service, Stephanie has consistently demonstrated a commitment to advancing nursing practice, elevating team culture, and improving outcomes for those we serve.

Before joining ChildServe, Stephanie founded the Perinatal and Pediatric Palliative Care SHINE (Sharing, Healing, Inspiring, Nurturing, Enduring) Program at UnityPoint Health – Blank Children’s Hospital, which supports children and families navigating complex chronic medical conditions. Her impact extended far beyond the bedside – leading with compassion, educating peers, and shaping systems to center family voices. As team leader, she championed the integration of family-centered, interdisciplinary palliative care in a high-acuity setting. Now at ChildServe, she teaches our year-long Palliative Care Course, which draws participants from across the country.

Stephanie’s academic foundation includes the University of California – Los Angeles and the University of Iowa. A published researcher and speaker, she has delivered dozens of presentations on pediatric palliative care, fetal loss, and care for vulnerable populations. She leads ChildServe’s research initiatives and recently established internal processes to expand research capacity and collaboration. She serves on the Institutional Review Boards of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines and Des Moines University.

Stephanie’s leadership fosters belonging, respect, and shared purpose. Her ability to motivate and inspire is evident through her work fostering team member recognition and professional pride. She leads and coordinates nursing recognition programs, elevates nursing voices throughout the organization, supports shared decision-making through our Nursing Leadership Council, and champions interdisciplinary communication and engagement. Stephanie is a vital member of ChildServe’s Care Quality Department, where she advocates for safe, high-quality, person-centered care. Her clinical excellence, operational knowledge, and commitment to improvement have advanced key initiatives that enhance outcomes and satisfaction for patients and staff. Her thoughtful, evidence-based approach to problem-solving makes her a trusted leader across departments.

Stephanie is also engaged in nursing leadership across Iowa and beyond. She currently serves as a representative for the Iowa Organization for Nursing Leadership and the Iowa Association of Healthcare Quality. She actively contributes to the Pediatric Complex Care Association, Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition of Iowa, Iowa Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, and the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association. Her mentorship of future nurses and advanced practice providers – through precepting, education, and the development of ChildServe’s Nurse Camp – demonstrates her enduring commitment to the advancement of nursing.

Stephanie exemplifies the highest ideals of nursing leadership. She is a pillar at ChildServe and a respected voice in the broader nursing community. I offer my highest recommendation for her to be recognized with this prestigious award.
