When challenging or frustrating times arose, she was steady and patient and showed compassion. There was never a doubt that she wanted what was best for our son, down to the finest details.
During our son's cancer treatments, Steph was not only one of his primary nurses, but she was also someone who brought joy to a challenging time. He would light up when Steph came in, and she did her job in such a thoughtful way. She became very in tune with our days and anticipated his and our needs, she talked through plans, concerns, ideas and so many other things with us. When challenging or frustrating times arose, she was steady and patient and showed compassion. There was never a doubt that she wanted what was best for our son, down to the finest details. When first meeting Steph, she brought up to the team that while having his central line placed, he would also need a feeding tube, and it would be great to do that while sedated. We are grateful for her calling things like this out. On days when things out of the ordinary came up, she would work closely with us, and it wasn't unusual for Steph to come back the next day and say, "While I was driving, I thought about it more, and here's what I came up with." She was such an amazing advocate. When we did family dinners and Steph was working, she was always great with our other son as well as she did what she needed to engage with him, which made him feel included. If we asked him who his favorite nurse of his brother’s was, he always answered with a resounding Miss Steph! While not the journey you want to find yourself on with your child, we couldn't be more appreciative of the love and care that Steph provided and the connection she built.
