June 2023 Honoree
Stephanie Schuster, RN
Stephanie cared for a very sick pediatric patient one on one for several hours recently. She could not be more than an arm's length from this young man. She was vigilant in monitoring him and intervening when there were changes in his status.
Stephanie is an excellent, experienced nurse but she also used all of her compassion and skill when caring for this small and vulnerable patient. She displayed not only critical thinking and action but excellent communication with the patient's mother, the anesthesiologist, and the surgeon. She consistently advocated for his safety and ensured a safe transfer to a higher level of care. I have no doubt that the patient had a good outcome in large part due to her care. She even called the patient's mother the next day to let her know we were thinking about them and to check on them. If that isn't the definition of outstanding nursing, I don't know what is.

Thank you, Stephanie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
