Recently, Stephany Terry, R.N. from IV therapy did what was right for not just one patient, but two patients that needed IV therapy after her shift. She stayed two hours past her shift time to help. I first called her at midnight to ask for her help with a patient who had a very complex medical history to get an IV because his port was bad. I had my most experienced RN's in the ER help me to try to get an IV but were unsuccessful. Stephanie came down with her ultrasound machine and got the IV for us. She saved this patient from many IV sticks and a possible call to anesthesiology.

As soon as the IV was inserted, I had a new patient that came into the ER for a broken broviac line. Stephanie was getting her stuff together and I hesitantly approached her and told her about the broken line. She then took the initiative to help and went to gather the special supplies she needed to repair the line upstairs. She repaired the broviac line and not only saved this patient an admission (not to mention the house was completely full and we were having a hard time getting beds for patients) but repaired the line and gave this patient their shortest hospital stay yet! Only one and a half hours.

Her actions represent her dedication to our patients, families, and to the SLCH team by going above and beyond for patients and coworkers.

She is always so helpful and appreciated, but tonight she went above and beyond to do what is right for patients and their families. She provided excellent teamwork among staff, utilizing resources wisely, preventing unnecessary patient admission and exceptional service to our patients and families and coworkers. Both parents, patients' and family members were truly grateful for the care she provided.
