Earlier this year, my eleven-year-old son was admitted to Mercy Iowa City for an emergency appendectomy. He can be a very difficult kid to connect with. He doesn't trust easily, usually will not make eye contact or engage in conversations unless he is at home. He rarely even interacts with his teachers at school.
Stephanie was very kind and compassionate with my son. She radiated with a positive, upbeat and inviting vibe. She connected with my son and explored his interests. They engaged in conversations that revolved around topics that were important to him. He also engaged with her almost immediately. He acted toward her like she was a trusted soul he could depend on. He talked to her, felt comfortable in her care, looked at her and acted as he does at home.
Stephanie is truly a gift to children she cares for. She provides good, sound nursing care, but it is her shining approach towards her patients and their families that makes her stand out as going above and beyond expectations.
