In PICU, we had a sweet girl who had a horrific accident in a bucket of homemade detergent. After a few critical days of fighting, her body stopped the good fight and she was declared brain dead. The family quickly approached the team about organ donation. With the hard work of nursing, physicians, respiratory therapist, LifeGift and OR, she was able to give her heart, kidneys, and liver.
Stephanie collaborated with Child Life and other bedside nurses to get the most precious hand and foot prints.
Stephanie took the hand print canvas home that night to spend hours drawing the family tree: "A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong."
What a great reminder of why we do what we do!!!
