April 2026 Honoree
Stephanie Vanderlooven, RN
Over the years, I have met 100s of nurses at St. Joe's, U of M, and now ProMedica, as both a patient and as someone sitting with family members in support of whatever medical issue they were going through. ProMedica’s staff has been excellent in every aspect.
One nurse in particular stood out far above the rest during my mom’s stay at ProMedica. Mom came into the emergency room and was admitted to a room. Scared and not sure what was happening. When we first met Stephanie, she just brought a calm, secure feeling to my mom.
Any request or questions that we had, she gave her full attention with an understanding smile and would answer or act on them in a caring and efficient way that is hard to describe.
As I was leaving during Stephanie's second shift with my mom, I told her If we don’t see you again, I want to thank you for taking care of my mom; you stood out far above the rest. She looked at me with a kind of modest, almost embarrassed look and said, "Thank you." You can definitely tell, it is more than just a job to her, she truly enjoys caring for people.
I have always known about the DAISY Award but have never been inspired to look into it or nominate any caregiver until now. Stephanie is the ideal person to receive this award, as, in my opinion, she is the very definition of a DAISY Award recipient.

Thank you, Stephanie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
