Through this interaction, Stephanie created a safe space for the patient, allowing them to feel seen, heard, and valued during a very difficult time.
Stephanie exemplified compassion, patience, and dedication in a situation that truly reflects the heart of nursing. Recently, Stephanie was assigned as a 1:1 sitter for a young mental health patient in the emergency department. The patient was understandably anxious and restless in the unfamiliar environment, and Stephanie quickly recognized that something more than medical care was needed to help calm and comfort them. With a nurturing spirit, Stephanie took the initiative to engage the patient in a way that not only met their emotional needs but also provided a sense of normalcy and connection. She sat with the patient playing cards, an activity that might seem simple but had a profound impact. Through this interaction, Stephanie created a safe space for the patient, allowing them to feel seen, heard, and valued during a very difficult time. Her willingness to go above and beyond her duties, to connect with a patient on a human level, and to offer a sense of companionship during a challenging moment, is the epitome of what it means to be a nurse. Stephanie’s actions brought comfort and relief to the patient and, without a doubt, made a positive impact on their overall experience in the emergency department. Stephanie’s kindness and empathy not only provided critical emotional support to the patient but also set an inspiring example for her colleagues. Her dedication to holistic patient care is truly commendable, and she is a shining example of compassion and excellence that the DAISY Awards represent. For these reasons and more, I wholeheartedly nominate Stephanie for the DAISY Award. She is a nurse who goes above and beyond, making a meaningful difference in the lives of her patients every day.
