She moved him in ways that helped him stay way better, and he would be so cozy!
Our son H was in the PICU for about 2 weeks. We had lots of nurses during that time. A lot of them were great. However, Steph deserves all the awards for everything she did. She was our night nurse on days 3 and 4. By that point, we were used to the way everyone else was positioning our ventilated baby boy. She was different, and at first it scared us. When she put him on his side, she really got him up on his side. She moved him in ways that helped him stay way better, and he would be so cozy! No one else had done this. It made us feel good that he looked very comfortable and obviously that his sats went way up! She also didn’t rush to more meds if his sats dropped some, she moved him first, and that usually helped on its own! This has been the hardest, scariest time in our lives. My husband and I kind of had a meltdown on Steph that first night because there were so many changes, and we were scared. She handled it very professionally, and we communicated so we could feel more comfortable. She was our nurse for 3 nights, and by the 3rd night, I didn’t even get up off the couch when she came in to do stuff with him because I trusted her. She was the only nurse that ever happened with the entire time. After that, if I saw her in the hall (even though she was not our nurse anymore), I would ask her if she had time, if she could come move him for us. She always did. With a smile and like it wasn’t a bother at all. Steph will never know how much we appreciate her and everything she did for our baby. I know from our night 1 freak out, we are not her favorite parents, but she was the favorite, best nurse for our baby, and we will forever be grateful. Especially considering we had a breakdown on her right when she met us, but she never stopped coming. She was very respectful and kind to us, not just our son, and she continued to help us even when she wasn’t assigned to our room. She should start a class on how to move/rotate kids; she’s the best! She also deserves any and all awards because she is the perfect example of going above and beyond!
