Our father was hospitalized for over ten days following a motor vehicle accident that caused an L5 fracture and left him unable to walk. During his stay, he developed hospital delirium, which was very distressing for him and our family. Stephen was the one nurse who consistently went above and beyond to care for our father as a whole person. He made an effort to normalize our father’s day by opening the blinds, maintaining routine, and prioritizing dignity. Stephen worked closely with PCT to provide a full hygiene bath, brush his teeth, and provide hair care, which significantly improved his comfort and mental state. Stephen was also the only nurse during the entire hospitalization who took the initiative to move our father out of bed and into a chair so he could sit upright and watch television. This made a remarkable difference in his mood and sense of normalcy. What truly set Stephen apart was his teamwork and compassion. He never hesitated to assist with hands-on care and treated the tech staff as valued partners. He even arranged for an extra dessert, banana pudding, our father’s favorite, which brought him joy during a very difficult time. Stephen exemplifies the values of compassion, teamwork, and patient-centered care. Our family will always be grateful for the difference he made.
